Google Buys 20 Million Archived Newspaper Pages

Besides print newspapers being bullied by the “global internet press”, it’s interesting to think how Google plans to use/distribute these pages of past. I want to see the evolution of ads. Was it better back then? Better yet, I wonder how modern marketers/advertiser could profit from this. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see past ad campaigns reemerge with a modern twist. Maybe creatives will figure out a way to “insert” new ads in these archived papers.

Let me know what you think.

  1. Let me kick off the “chatter”. Digg and other news mashup sites could start a “vintage” service where people explore and discover old news stories, etc. I mean I don’t have the time to read all that’s going on today so I get snippets. I’m at least aware of most things going on in the world. Why not get snippets from 1953 and so on?
